I can’t tell you how excited I am to announce this one!

On Thursday, Movember 17, Bernard’s Tavern will be hosting one hell of an event!

First, they will be donating a portion of their food sales on 11/17 to Movember. Awesome!

Awesomer! Several members of the Columbus Crew will be donating gear to a silent auction to be held at Bernard’s starting around 9:00 PM!

Awesomest! Several members of the Columbus Crew will also be auctioning dates! You could win a romantic dinner, greasy burgers and a movie, or a couple hours kicking around a soccer ball with your favorite MLS player! The date auction should begin around 9:00 PM, so dont miss out!

Movember 17, 18, 19 – MOre Mo’s Than You Can Handle(bar)

It’s gonna be a busy week for the MoBros and MoSistas in Columbus! Our pre-planned events include an all-day event, a party, and a kick-ass concert to boot!

Thursday, Movember 17 – Movember Day at Bernard’s
A portion of the food sales will be donated to Movember on 11/17! Eat lunch, dinner, or late night snacks for a good cause. PLUS you can bid on autographed Columbus Crew gear in a silent auction all day long! Bidding will end at 10:00 PM and winners will be notified shortly thereafter! PLUS you can be there for a LIVE auction of several Columbus Crew players!

Friday, Movember 18 – Mustache Bash at Filling Station
Show up at 9:00 PM to compete in the Best Mustache competition! Anything goes, so grow it, draw it, tattoo it, whatever you have to do! $50 will go to the best mustache in the house.

Saturday, Movember 19 – 2nd Annual Movember Concert at KOBO
(As heard on CD101 @ 102.5FM!) $5 at the door will go to Movember. For that low price you can see headliner Ghost Shirt as well as Joshua P. James and the Paper Planes, The Smoking Guns, and The Boondogglers.

Movember 2011 – Week 1 Re-cap

The Movember MOvement in Molumbus (I’m done, I swear) kicked off in 2011 with a lot of fun and unique events:

Movember Kick-off Party at Meisters – We had a small group in attendance, but the excitement was in the air. Check out this large group of friends who posed with our 6-foot stache!

Lots of Bros, Lots of Mos

Movember Art Show at Junctionview Studios – About 10 artists contributed 20 pieces of art for the art show. Only a couple pieces sold despite the low prices on the art, but it was a lot of fun, none the less. Here are my favorites from the show:

Gallery Hop – MoBro Eric and I set up shop in front of Friend of Movember, Bernard’s Tavern on High Street for the Short North’s busiest night of the month. It was a beautiful night to meet people and talk about Movember. Our common greeting as people were walking by was “Happy Movember!” Too many people replied with “Happy November to you!” and as they walked past the 6-foot stache, they realized that we indeed did NOT say “November”. We talked to dozens (hundreds??) of people and handed out information as well as the always popular fake staches. If you saw someone with a fake stache walking around Gallery Hop, it was our fault.

This week, our only event is a showing of Tower Heist at Arena Grand. On Thursday, Movember 10 at 7:30 PM, you can catch a showing of the new Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy comedy Tower Heist for only $5 plus a donation to Movember. How awesome is that?? Come meet up with your fellow MoBros and MoSistas for one hilarious time!

 

Thursday THIS: TOMS Shoes

The Thursday THIS series highlights Movember or mustache-themed products that we love. Whenever possible, we will highlight gear from companies that sponsor Movember in some way, but there are bound to be some products that are just too cool to NOT highlight on here. 

TOMS is a shoemaker that created the One for One program: for every pair of shoes purchased, they give a pair of shoes to someone in need. It’s a great program and has allowed them to give away over 1 million pairs of shoes since 2006.

TOMS teamed up with Movember in 2010 to create a Movember-themed version of their Classic. It was black and had Movember-print lining and a stitched mustache on the side.

In 2011, TOMS is back with another Classic design (in grey, for men and women) and new for this year, a Botas (also in grey, for men) style shoe.

My wife purchased a pair of the Movember Classics last year and they are really great shoes! They always draw attention and get people talking (as if the mustache didn’t do enough of that already).

Be sure to get a pair while you still can! They are very likely to sell out before your stache is done growing!

This Movember, be sure to check out break.com/movember. They have produced a bunch of mustache-themed videos, most of which are hilarious. Some even include Movember celebrities, like Adam Garone and Bubba Nicholson.

My current favorite is The Greatest Moustaches in History (Jackson, Jackson, Jackson, Jackson, Jackson!). “Dig into our storied past, it’s been shaped by the mustache!” Fantastic!

Thursday THIS: Traxler Tees – Ohio Staches Against Cancer

There’s nothing like a good tshirt. It can make you look good, feel good, and get across exactly what you want to say.

Traxler Tees, a local Columbus custom screen printer, has created a great tshirt for Movember 2011. The shirt features the outline of Ohio with the text Staches Against Cancer squeezed inside the borders. It’s a great looking shirt for a great looking cause: Proceeds of this shirt will be donated to Movember!

NBC4 and Movember

NBC4 is participating in Movember. Are you?

Monica Day is spearheading the effort at Columbus’s local NBC station. She even convinced Mike Jackson, co-anchor of NBC4 Today, the stations morning show. If Mike raises $1000 before Movember 1, he’s going to shave off his stache live on the air!
